My son or daughter has had previous experience on an instrument in elementary school, but they would like to try a different instrument. Is that possible?
We strongly discourage those students who have previous experience on an instrument switching instruments in their grade nine year. The problem with doing this is it puts them back in a true beginner class where we teach right from the beginning of how to count, read notes etc. They already have this knowledge and often end up quite bored.
What we do encourage is taking the talent the student has already devleloped on their instrument, and help them discover just how good they really are. In our experience, the student with previous experience on an instrument is ultimately far better and far happier on that same instrument, even if they came to the grade nine program with some "less than positive" sentiments. Thank you for your trust in us on this matter!
